Topoisomerase
Enzyme that starts DNA replication by relieving tension in the helix.
It is an enzyme that modifies DNA topology through transient cuts and subsequent resealing of one or both strands. These reactions alter supercoiling and resolve torsional stresses in genetic material.
Topoisomerases are essential during replication, transcription, and chromosome segregation, processes that require DNA to be separated or reorganized. They are also important targets of antibiotics and anticancer drugs.
