Entity

Rho factor

Protein that uses ATP to destabilize RNA polymerase and terminate transcription.

It is a protein with ATPase and helicase activity that binds a specific sequence of the nascent RNA to trigger termination of transcription.

It acts in one of the two main mechanisms of transcriptional termination in bacteria, rho-dependent termination, which does not require the formation of a hairpin in the RNA, unlike the independent mechanism.

The video explains that it binds a rut sequence of the transcribed RNA and that, using ATP, it advances until it reaches RNA polymerase, destabilizing it and releasing the transcript.
