Entity
RNA polymerase
Bacterial enzyme that synthesizes messenger RNA from a DNA template strand.
It is an enzyme that catalyzes RNA synthesis from a DNA template strand, joining ribonucleotides in the 5′ to 3′ direction without needing a primer.
It is the central enzyme of transcription; in bacteria, a single type of RNA polymerase synthesizes the main types of RNA, and its activity depends on factors that direct it to the correct promoters and regulate its progress and its stopping.
The video describes it reading the template strand in the 3′ to 5′ direction while synthesizing RNA in the 5′ to 3′ direction, incorporating adenine, uracil, cytosine, and guanine, and states that damage to its subunit III causes 4H syndrome.
