Entity
Okazaki fragments
Short DNA fragments synthesized discontinuously on the lagging strand.
They are the short DNA fragments synthesized discontinuously on the lagging strand during replication.
Each one starts with an RNA primer synthesized by primase; once DNA polymerase I replaces that primer with DNA, DNA ligase joins them into a continuous strand.
The video states that DNA polymerase III forms them on the lagging strand because it needs a new primer each time, and that DNA polymerase I then replaces their RNA primers with DNA before ligase joins them.
