Messenger RNA

Single-stranded RNA molecule that carries the genetic message copied from DNA to the ribosome.

It is a single-stranded RNA molecule, complementary to the DNA template strand, that carries the codon sequence needed to direct the synthesis of a protein.

It is the link between the information stored in DNA and the translation machinery: ribosomes read it codon by codon to assemble the corresponding amino acid chain. Its half-life and its regulation allow the cell to control how much protein is produced from a gene.
