Biochemist who discovered key steps of glycolysis in the 1910s and 1920s.

He was a German physician and biochemist, born in 1874 and deceased in 1933, who investigated muscle metabolism. He spent most of his career in Frankfurt am Main.

His research helped clarify reactions in glucose breakdown and establish the sequence of glycolysis. His surname remains associated, along with those of Otto Meyerhof and Jakub Karol Parnas, with a historical name for the pathway.

The video places his discovery of key steps of glycolysis in muscle cells between the 1910s and the 1920s. It also emphasizes that his observations revealed several reactions and laid the foundations for what would later be called glycolysis.
