Marshall Nirenberg
Biochemist who in 1961 began the experimental deciphering of the genetic code.
He was an American biochemist, born in 1927 and deceased in 2010, who worked at the United States National Institutes of Health.
He is recognized, together with Heinrich Matthaei, for beginning in 1961 the experiments that made it possible to assign the first codons to specific amino acids, a decisive step in deciphering the genetic code, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1968.
The video places the deciphering of the genetic code table between 1961 and 1966 and notes that this work began with Nirenberg and Matthaei experimenting with Escherichia coli.
