Reverse transcription
Process by which an enzyme synthesizes DNA from RNA.
It is the process by which the enzyme reverse transcriptase uses an RNA strand as a template to synthesize a complementary DNA strand.
It is characteristic of retroviruses, which use it to integrate their genetic material into the host cell's genome, and constitutes the best-documented exception to the usual direction of information flow proposed by the central dogma.
The video presents it as a named exception to the central dogma: viruses capable of transforming RNA into DNA, showing that information can flow in the reverse direction originally postulated by Crick.
