Entity
DNA ligase
Enzyme that joins the Okazaki fragments to complete the lagging strand.
It is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of a phosphodiester bond between the 3′-OH end and the 5′-phosphate end of two adjacent DNA fragments, sealing the nick between them.
It is essential to complete synthesis of the lagging strand during replication and also participates in DNA repair pathways. Its activity requires energy, supplied by ATP or NAD+ depending on the organism.
The video explains that it joins the Okazaki fragments, once DNA polymerase I has replaced their primers with DNA, to complete the strand continuously.
