Primase
Enzyme that synthesizes the RNA primers needed to replicate DNA.
It is a specialized RNA polymerase that synthesizes short RNA primers from a DNA template. It provides the free 3′-OH end required by DNA polymerases to initiate elongation.
Primase makes the initiation of DNA synthesis possible at the replication fork and acts repeatedly on the lagging strand. Its activity is integrated with helicases and other replisome proteins.
The video shows that, at the replication fork, it synthesizes a small RNA fragment called a primer. That fragment marks the point from which DNA polymerase III begins adding nucleotides to the new strand.
