Between 1910 and 1920, Gustav Embden discovered key steps of glycolysis.

Between 1910 and 1920, Gustav Embden investigated key reactions in glucose breakdown in muscle cells. His results helped outline the sequence of transformations that was later integrated as glycolysis.

Embden's work helped establish the biochemical analysis of metabolic pathways as ordered series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. His contributions formed part of the experimental basis for reconstructing cellular energy metabolism.
