Entity

Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases

Family of enzymes that attach each amino acid to its corresponding transfer RNA.

It is a family of enzymes, one for each of the twenty amino acids, that catalyze the covalent attachment of each amino acid to its specific transfer RNA, recognizing both the amino acid and its corresponding transfer RNA.

They are responsible for the fidelity of the genetic code: an error in loading the transfer RNA would directly result in the wrong amino acid being incorporated into the protein being built.

The video explains that this family of enzymes is responsible for the specificity with which codons are translated, that each one has two recognition sites —one for the amino acid and another for its corresponding transfer RNA— and that they ensure each amino acid arrives on the transfer RNA with the correct anticodon.
