RNA
Intermediate molecule between DNA and proteins.
It is a nucleic acid composed of ribonucleotides joined by phosphodiester bonds, generally single-stranded and containing uracil rather than thymine. Its molecules can adopt structures that determine informational, catalytic, and regulatory functions.
RNA participates in gene expression, protein synthesis, and regulation of numerous cellular processes. Its different classes include messenger, ribosomal, transfer, and regulatory RNAs.
The videos place it between DNA and proteins in Francis Crick's central dogma. During replication, primase synthesizes a small RNA fragment called a primer, which marks the beginning of construction of the new strand.
